River Water

wake up every day

and look in the mirror

into your own dark eyes

to say:

you must be strong 

we are in dark times

you must be strong

the river is carrying us 

it has branched again

into a path unforeseen

just make sure 

your head stays 

above the water

all of you are carrying 

something 

a bottle of whisky 

or your girlfriend 

or the accumulated wealth 

of your family

and you have to keep 

those things

out of the water

it is rushing swiftly 

and sometimes that helps

carry you through the days 

lend a hand, my friend 

build a life raft for this one
