Mutable

I like making mischief

playing with the cat’s feet

until he decides to

go all in with teeth

testing your boundary waters

with troublemaking suggestions

to see at what point

you start to get tempestuous.

Learning where the storm in you

starts to spin up

is like leaning over the edge

of the precipice

it can make my heart hammer

and send adrenaline surging

through the tributaries of blood

that wind through me

like a hinterland under the skin.

I like games of risk

and I like surprising the room

because their first impression

is always the wrong one

which is great for airport security

when being a wholesome

breakfast snack of a person

is the order of the day

but harder in relationships

when people expect you to be

constantly

the same woman.
