Featherfall
I am the woman
who walked in the night
when the white flowers were falling
and followed them
into the starlight fields
because I was burning to know
where they would lead me
why did the Mother of Summer
blow the opalescent petals
all the way down the hill
to cross paths with me
unless it was to
direct my steps
like the white sheets
my mother hung outside
to dry on the line
the goddess shook out the blossoms
with their heavy scent
like a storm of feathers
on that evening
that her intervention might
bring me to all of you
and through the
years that followed
never have I borne
a moment of regret
knowing each of you
continues to be
the delight of my heart
you bridge the gap
you light the lantern
you let the waters flow
for me.
