stand three hundred

and sixty metres

high above the plain

and could be held

by a brave handful

against the tide

of the Romans

Caesar 

led the legions

called them to

fall back to

lure the Averni out

but they did not listen

and instead 

pressed forward 

to be slaughtered

the cavalry charge

of Vercingetorix

crushed the Roman

lines and then

the tribes left their 

horses to continue

their fight

on foot

yet

after the battle

of Alesia

Vercingetorix

gave himself up

to save his men
