Unmatched

I climb out of the boxes

you try to put me in

defying categorization 

I see you furrowing your brow

in puzzlement 

trying me length and width

against the custom

of your expectations 

I’ve never fit into those containers 

the dimensions of me are all wrong 

in so many ways

that’s why, for much of my life 

I tried to take on a new shape

now I delight in my exceptionalism 

this is how I come - I was made different 

I have no apologies.
