Uncovering

The gods have 

given us to each other

to punish and reward 

they are always 

hedging their bets

one hand for justice

and the other 

(the shadow hand)

its palm filled

with the black oil

of corruption 

you are there 

holding up a mirror 

and I am flinching back

I notice that you 

are keeping your eyes averted

so you may also 

not like what you see 

how is it a gift

to be yoked together

with someone else who

shares your qualities

of light and darkness

except to burn through

your illusions 

about yourself 

which seems to hurt

like hell.
