Truth

I think that you will find

that the truth serves you better

when you walk

through the world

bearing a flaming sword

and scowling at people.

I have found

the truth to be disarming

when delivered

in the right manner

just say it quietly,

“You have nothing to fear.”

just say it quietly.

This woman

her hair tangles like smoke

she breathes poetry

and what she touches

shines with a dull and uncanny light

but her hair is not

lovelier than yours

her gifts are not

greater than yours.

In the end

it is impossible to

make up to someone

all the transgressions

they have suffered

even the ones

you were responsible for

you must build trust

between you like bridges

after your heart’s allegiance

has been pledged

you should fear

no one.
