Toll

The Fae folk

have taken their toll

they have exacted their price

because we trampled

on the ground

that is sacred to them

they have stolen

your ability to see

the world as it was

and now

nothing will be the same

to you

if you are fortunate

the taste of mortal food

will still sustain you

and you will sleep

and wake up rested

when the day returns

if you are fortunate

you will still feel desire

when you lay in the arms

of the woman that you love

and let her hair twist

through your fingers

otherwise their vengeance

will rip out the heart of you

and you will spend

the rest of your days

trying to remember

just a glimpse of the world

you have forgotten.
