I am glad

that you are learning 

to let me 

be my maniac self

dive into the dangerous pool

measure these choices 

through the sun’s rotation 

without 

interference 

because somehow

I am making it work

this odd way I have

of playing the game

differently 

than the others.

I love winning

but more than winning 

I love circuitous and 

unexplored paths 

to the end game

let me 

find my way 

in my own way 

with these unrecognizable 

tools and instruments 

that I have discovered 

in my journeying 

they are not the tools

you would choose

but they are right 

for my small hands.

I listen

to you

and value your wisdom

your desire 

to protect 

but not everyone 

wants the same things

even the people we love

may not know

what we need.
