Renewal

Having rage

boil up

from the pot 

is a starting place 

that I know 

it is my tripwire too

the soil that

I’m planted in

like the earth

around the base

of the volcano 

covered with a profusion 

of green 

feeding on the richness

of the ash and magma

life explodes 

out of my darkness

I watch 

you planting 

the coals like seeds

still glowing hot

and cursing 

while your 

skin crackles

we’ve both learned 

to handle the 

fiery kernels 

gently 

to stroke them

into the loam 

even when our skin

is smoking.
