Rain of Shadow

I am up to no good

burning gasoline

on my side quests

and fighting domestication

with every fur-covered

inch of me

because I see no gain

to my spirit

in lapsing into humanity

if I am human

I will have to know

about death

I will have to know

that I’m surrounded

by poison in the earth

and in the water

I will have to worry

like the rest of you

about the consequences

of my actions

fifteen years from now

and I am already

fearful enough that

it is only wolves

and prey, everywhere

I look, that the number

of paladins is dwindling

in each hour, that the

orders of darkness

are rising like the river

because there is a

rain of shadow falling

that I can hear

in the rustling of the leaves

and scent upon the wind.
