Narcissus

needing all the eyes

to be on you

needling with the dagger

of your intelligence

not afraid of pain

not afraid

would sweep them into your bed

if those activities were permitted

not from desire

although you feel desire

the desire to own their attention

I am wiser than you

because I am not blind

to how we are the same

to how we both

have the daggers out

to how we are playing chess at 3am

don’t let my youth and curves

distract you from

the mirror of us

how we can’t accept anything but victory

and how we are both willing to hazard anything

except victory

how we both say what we are doing

to divert people

from what we are doing

I am wise

to my weaknesses

which is a kind of wisdom

one of which is this hunger

and delight

when I look at my reflection
