Meteor

What I love

is finding a single thread

a single spark

to feed onto the lathe of words

and knurl the grip of a story

so I may grasp it.

It is best

when one of you

hands me the starfire

so I can shape

the malleable stuff

of the meteoric iron

for me

will you look

through the tumbled piles

of celestial objects

in their sparkling heaps

and pass me the brightest

I’ll lay them about me

on the worktable

of the heavens

and try to make something

worth keeping

the value to me

is not in the prize of completion

I treasure up

your gifts

and pin them to the boards

of my imagination

that I may

hold them close

to my heart.
