Heroes and Gods
What I am doing
is making us all
heroes and gods
like the troubadours and
song-spinners of old
I will be singing of you
long after you are gone
that the legends of your deeds
may live.
Each of you
carries an individual spark
to light the fire of eternity
together our conflagration
burns through the pages
of the book of life
and renders it into ash
I imagine the phoenix
of our unity rising again
in the halls of the heavenly hosts
to delight the heart of me
dwelling in the infinite
hereafter.
Let’s live with such abandon
that the divine ones are
amazed at our temerity and
fear to take us
let our music swell
from the table of our communion
that we may cause the
rabble of nightmares to flee
before us and the passers by
to gaze on us with longing
their red lips parted
captivated by our words
our laughter
like an audience bespelled
to follow our piping.
