Fear The Fae
creatures like me
with our unbound hair
with our shining eyes
we chant the songs
that cause the seasons
to turn, the flowers
to bloom, the eggs
to hatch, the fruit
to ripen
we crush rocks
into sand, send birds
swirling over the fallen,
part the mist, and
cause your heart
to lurch and stutter
in the safe core
of your self
no wonder that men
want to chain us
and command us, to file
down our teeth, to fill
our wombs, to circle
us with iron
how can you
sleep at night
if the one
in your bed
may suddenly turn
and devour you
but if we are
fettered and bound
how can you
sleep at night
