Anchor Point

It should be no surprise 

after these long years

when I say you 

are my favorite

friend of the morning 

always I try to sit

at your side 

listen to your wisdom

laugh at your mischief-

making. 

It is the balance

that I love between

binding us to the earth

and tearing us all apart

that is a synchronicity 

that is useful 

and delicious with coffee.

All these Capricorns

in my life

impossible to believe

that astrology is meaningless

clearly there is some 

attraction between the siren

and the anchor

one trying to lure

and the other to hold fast. 

Also I enjoy

a little disapproval 

first thing in the morning

it sets me up 

along with the mocha latte

for a day of battles.
