All Hallows’ Eve

This night

when we rage over the town

costumed like the dead

begging for sugar

deliberately plunging our

heads and hands into terror

over and over

and letting the neighborhood

ring with our shrieking

who cares if the

spirits are roistering with us

let’s do it again.

Our wild hunt is just

beginning as the sun sets

and we’re looking for the

horned king to run

the exanimate damned

out of town

tonight we’ll be

electrified by this

adventurous passage

through the dark

causeways of the heavens

black from the sun’s departure.

I hope that you too

are keeping an eye out

and watching the burning

fires for signs of mischief

maybe you are leading

your own pack of predators

wild in revelry

through the haunted streets

I wouldn’t put it past you.
